FAQ

Can’t find a new hard drive on your computer? (Windows 7®/ XP, Windows Vista®)

The possible reasons that you cannot find your new hard drive on your computer are:

I.   A brand new hard drive – disk has not been partitioned

II. Unsupported file system*1 of the disk – Windows only supports FAT*2/FAT32/NTFS*3

Please create a partition and proceed to format this disk by following the steps below:

1. From the main desktop, right-click on “My Computer” (“Computer” in Windows 7®, Windows Vista®), then select “Manage”. In the new Computer Management window, select “Disk Management” from the left window panel.

2. Locate the disk labeled as “Unallocated” (check hard drive capacity to confirm it is the correct hard drive), right-click on the “Unallocated” label, and select “New Partition” (or “New Simple Volume…” in Windows 7®, Windows Vista®).

3. The “New Partition Wizard” (or “New Simple Volume Wizard” in Windows 7®, Windows Vista®) will appear. Follow the instructions in the wizard to complete setting up the drive. Once complete, the disk should show up as “Healthy” with a drive letter assigned (i.e. I:). This drive letter should now appear within “My Computer”.

If you are installing a hard drive that already has data on it, then it should connect to the USB 3.0 SATA 3G Adapter, the drive should automatically show up with a drive letter assigned within “My Computer”.

*All files on the disk will be erased.
